2048 was created in a single weekend in 2014 and became one of the most viral browser games in history. The rules take 10 seconds to learn and the strategy takes much longer to master.
Slide all tiles on a 4x4 grid in one of four directions. Matching tiles merge into their sum. After each move, a new tile (2 or 4) appears randomly. Reach the 2048 tile before the board fills completely.
The game looks trivial until you hit 256 and realize board management is collapsing. Reaching 2048 requires a consistent corner strategy โ keeping your highest tile anchored in one corner and building a decreasing sequence away from it. The game works completely offline after the first load and is one of the few browser games with perfect mobile swipe controls.
