S and Z pieces are the most difficult to place well. Never bury them — always try to surface-place them. Keep one side of your stack flat to accommodate S-Z without creating holes. Professional players plan 3-4 pieces ahead specifically to manage incoming S-Z pieces.
A T-spin double (rotating the T-piece into a T-shaped gap) scores triple normal line clear value. The setup requires a T-shaped overhang in your stack. Beginner T-spin: create a 3-tall column with a 2-wide notch at the top. Rotate the T-piece in. Two lines clear for 3x bonus.
Keeping your stack flat and consistent is the foundation of high-level Tetris. Flat stacks accept any piece cleanly. Uneven stacks force awkward placements that create holes. If your stack has a spike (column significantly higher than neighbors), spend pieces flattening it before it gets buried.
A perfect clear (clearing all cells simultaneously) gives the highest possible bonus. The most reliable beginner PC setup starts with an empty board and places IOSZTJL in a specific 4-row pattern. Perfect clears chain — the clean board allows another immediate PC attempt.
Tetris mastery is inseparable from speed. Play at comfortable speeds until muscle memory forms, then deliberately challenge yourself at one speed level higher. The gap between Level 5 and Level 15 speed is where players separate — those who trained speed versus those who only trained strategy.
